Coca Cola foundation gives Sh400m for youth empowerment programmes

Kenya will benefit from more than Sh400 million funding from The Coca Cola Africa Foundation (TCCAF), which will go towards youth empowerment initiatives.

Dubbed Youth Empowered for Success (YES), the programme is expected to provide life and business skills training as well as access to employment and mentoring for 25,000 young Africans.

The YES programme will benefit six African countries and will first be introduced in Kenya, Tunisia and South Africa in the first phase before it is extended to Liberia, Nigeria and Uganda.

TCCAF chairman Nathan Kalumbu said the programme will address critical development and life skills for youth aged between 18 and 35, unemployed and underemployed in addition to providing access to sustainable economic opportunities created through employment or entrepreneurship.

In the first three years of the programme, Kalumbu said TCCAF’s target is to provide proof of concept for a scalable and replicable model and is expected to reach 500,000 youth by 2020 through establishing strong partnerships with private sector, NGO, and government.
