Africa is sitting on a ticking time bomb of Youth Unemployment.
Africa is growing, but youth are left behind. Youth empowerment is no longer a mere option, but a growing necessity, an obligation & a catalyst for Africa’s growth & development. The YES! Program is designed to complement existing youth skills and experiences by filling gaps in youth’s needs.
Engage
Inspiring & engaging youth to imagine & invest in their own future.
We recognize youth as as partners in the YES! Program. Through YES! we reach out to the most vulnerable youth and engage them in the program design & execution. The Program will work with vulnerable youth aged 18 to 35 years olds, of whom at least 50% of the participants are girls and young women.
Train
Tackling the unemployment crisis through learning & development.
Most young people often encounter difficulty in accessing work due to lack of soft skills & social skills. The YES! program is designed to prepare youth by building high impact, transferable, and market-driven technical skills that are necessary for getting, keeping and succeeding at a job, so that youth can secure safe, steady and productive self-employment.

Young people lack the professional networks and previous experiences needed to start and manage a successful business. The majority of new business startups do not survive past the first six months. First time employees also struggle to maintain their jobs in a new work environment. YES! aims to support these youth to by providing them mentorship from successful people.

About YES! Program

Youth employment is the bedrock of long-term economic health, social cohesiveness and sustainability around the world. Yet youth unemployment is one of the most critical challenges facing the African continent today. Half the population of Africa is under the age of 25, and 40 million Africans between the ages of 15 and 24 are out of work. While 10-12 million young Africans enter the workforce each year, less than half this number of employment opportunities are available.

Against this backdrop, The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation (TCCAF) has partnered with Mercy Corps, Kuza Biashara, Harambee and Microsoft to design, launch and scale the Youth Empowered for Success (YES!) Program, a bold new initiative that will enable youth across Africa to access new economic opportunities including jobs, skills training, mentorship and financial services.

The vision is big, with the next three years dedicated to:

Catalyzing innovation – Developing an effective and evidenced-based model to economically empower youth at scale.
Transforming lives – Reaching 25,000 youth in six countries – Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Liberia, Tunisia and South Africa.
Furthering the youth empowerment movement – Building partnerships to reach at least 500,000 youth by 2020.
